Take the 2020 Census Now!

Secretary Howard and ILRC Need Your Help.

Participation in the 2020 Census ensures communities across the state are represented fairly and receive their share in the distribution of more than $6 billion in federal funds to Kansas annually. Every 10 years, results from the U.S. Census are used to reapportion congressional seats. The 2020 Census will determine how many congressional seats the state of Kansas will hold for the next decade.

When it comes to federal funding, participation in the U.S. Census ensures our communities benefit from your hard-earned tax dollars. That could mean more funding for our schools, roads and highways, public health, affordable housing programs, and so much more!

The Governor’s Kansas Complete Count Committee has been working hard to get the word out statewide about the importance of the Census. They’ve done well: Kansas is ranked #13 among the states with a census return rate of 67.4%. But we have several larger counties that have low return rates – Finney, Ford, Seward – as well as a number of smaller rural counties that also stand to lose significantly if their residents aren’t counted. We can do better and you can help! How important is the census? These programs could be at stake without federal funding: parks, literacy programs, schools, health clinics, job training, senior services, affordable housing, fire stations, veterans programs, and community centers.

We are all counting on you, too! Please make sure you TAKE THE CENSUS NOW so YOU are counted. For more information about the Kansas Counts campaign, visit https://kansascounts.org/.

Thank you for your help and support to maximize the state’s 2020 census response!
