Payroll Services for Personal Care
Independent Living Resource Center provides a variety of programs and services; all with the goal of helping people with disabilities live as independently as possible in the homes and communities they choose. For some people, having someone who can provide personal services can make the difference between living independently and being forced into institutional care.
ILRC’s Payroll Services help people of all ages with all kinds of disabilities hire and employ Direct Support Workers to help them with tasks of everyday living. Examples of these tasks include cooking, cleaning, laundry, providing transportation, balancing personal accounts, or personal care tasks such as bathing or transferring from beds or wheelchairs. Direct Support Workers generally are not trained as nurses or health care workers, but are employed to do the kinds of tasks that make independent living possible.
We make it easy
ILRC maintains a list of potential workers for those who are looking for a Direct Support Worker to hire. The person with a disability, or in some cases that person’s guardian, is responsible for selecting, training, scheduling, and supervising their Direct Support Worker.
If you don’t want to deal with the tax and financial issues, or want support on personnel matters involved in employing a Direct Support Worker, ILRC’s Payroll Services is here to help. We conduct background checks on prospective workers; provide workers’ compensation insurance; consult with you on personnel issues related to the employment of Direct Support Workers; and provide payroll services, which includes paying Social Security, federal and state withholding taxes.
By completing this application, you will be added to a list to be considered for a “Direct Support Worker." Download and fill out the application, and e-mail to our PAS Advocate/Payroll Representative at firstname.lastname@example.org or deliver the application back to the Independent Living Resource Center. Once you’ve been selected by a consumer, the Consumer will contact you to fill out additional paperwork.
Who can use ILRC’s Payroll Services program?
Most people enrolled in our payroll services program qualify for payment of their Direct Support Worker through the Kansas Medicaid Home and Community Based Services – Physical Disabilities Waiver program. However, our program is also available to those who qualify under the Frail Elderly, Head Injury, Mental Retardation/Developmental Disability, or other HCBS waiver program. In fact, our services are available to anyone who employs a support worker in their home, whether or not they are eligible to receive Medicaid.

Kansas Personal Care Directory
It is very easy for personal care workers to complete an online application, and best of all, it is FREE. Interested applicants should go to the directory at www.RewardingWork.org and choose Kansas in the section that says “Start by choosing where you live.” The Kansas page provides a brief overview of how the directory works. You should also consider clicking on the “Worker Resources” tab at the top of the page. From Worker resources, you may select “Kansas worker resources” from the left navigation column to find information about personal care of respite jobs in Kansas. Next, the applicant should look for the box that says: "Want a rewarding job?" and click on "Apply now to find a job!" This page will lead a worker through the steps of creating a username (the worker’s email address) and filling out the application.
That’s it! A password will be sent to the worker after the application is submitted, which allows the worker to check back at a later date to update his or her application or view and apply to postings on the job board. FREE!! No cost, no hassle. If a worker has questions, the worker can call Rewarding Work customer service at 1-866-212-9675. Customer service hours are listed in the Contact us section of the Kansas site.
For our families and consumers, registration is almost as easy. Consumers should go to www.RewardingWork.org/Kansas and click on: “Looking to hire someone? Register and hire someone today.” Next, they complete the short Registration Form and choose how to Subscribe. KanCare members receive a free subscription. On the Subscribe Page, they click “I wish to register with an Access Code” and enter their MCO code:

Families without a KanCare code can use the site for a low subscription fee, starting at $10 per month. Any consumer with an active subscription may post a job on the job board, free of charge, in addition to searching the database for workers.
