ILRC receives grant to improve dental health of people with disabilities
Independent Living Resource has been awarded a grant from the Delta Dental of Kansas Foundation of more than 1,500 oral care kits, containing toothpaste, tooth brushes and dental floss.
ILRC is a nonprofit organization that provides information, education, direct services and advocacy for people with disabilities in eight counties in south-central Kansas. Delta Dental of Kansas Foundation provides grants for programs that work to improve the oral health of Kansans.
“We are very pleased to be able to distribute these kits to our consumers,” said Cindi Unruh, executive director of ILRC. “Our consumers are, for the most part, low-income people who don’t have dental insurance or sufficient income to pay for dental care. Added to that, many have limited access to transportation, making it more difficult to see a dentist for regular check-ups.”
Beginning this week, these kits will be distributed to ILRC consumers and those on its Home and Community Based Services waiting list.
