Department of Commerce and Department for Children and Families announce KANSASWORKS Employer Partner Incentive

In mid-November the MERN program had more walkers and crutches than needed. Hearing of a need for them in Honduras, 30 walkers and more than a dozen pairs of crutches were donated to the PET project, another nonprofit. The walkers and crutches will be given to people who desperately need them and have no other way to get them.

Shawn Sullivan, secretary of the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services, announced the appointment of James Bart as ombudsman for the KanCare program. Bart is a lawyer from Lawrence, Kan.

Packets of information sent by KanCare to Medicaid recipients, including ILRC’s Home and Community Based Services consumers, contained incorrect phone numbers for the managed care organizations (MCOs). 

When three women who participate at Independent Living Resource Center needed a support group for people with fibromyalgia, they found there wasn’t one locally. The three took to heart the old adage, “If you want something done, do it yourself,” and started a group for themselves and others.

Independent Living Resource has been awarded a grant from the Delta Dental of Kansas Foundation of more than 1,500 oral care kits, containing toothpaste, tooth brushes and dental floss.
