Lose the Training WheelsILRC is teaming up with Lose The Training Wheels again this year to teach people with disabilities to ride a bicycle—without training wheels! Children, youth and adults with disabilities such as autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy have been successful in our camps.

Participants receive 75 minutes of instruction each day for five consecutive days. Five daytime sessions are offered and each session is limited to eight participants. Experienced professionals and trained volunteers use specially adapted equipment to teach bike riding in a group setting. On average, more than 80 percent of camp participants learn to ride a conventional bicycle on their own. And it’s fun!

To register for the camp, participants must meet the following criteria:

have a diagnosed disability
be at least eight years old
have a minimum inseam of 20 inches
weigh less than 230 pounds
be ambulatory without an assistive device
be able to side-step quickly
be able and willing to wear a properly fitted helmet
